Deluge

I wish my words were eloquent
That they flowed with meaning
and grace
like a dancer's perfect movements
with heartbeats as my music
and life as a stage

I wish that they would speak
I wish that they would sing
Everything that makes its way
from thought
to fingertip
and back again

That I could open my very heart and mind
use the page as my canvas
and my thoughts and feelings as paint

Paint as vivid as the blue skies
As deep and as wild as a dark night
As calm as the moment you lie
in the arms of the one you love.

Instead they fall
tumbling like raindrops
one after another
down the page.

Uncounted
Cautious
Hesitant

One single word on its own may mark the paper
but in time it will fade.

Raise the tempo
   slowly
   surely
They dance faster and faster
Until my mind is humming with a chorus
My fingetips drumming out a beat
and the words themselves fall as a deluge onto the page
soaking it deeply with the smell of wild rain
the scent of passion.

Twisting and writhing,
falling over itself in a chaotic beauty
bursting into colour
and bringing with it all that I am
and all I will be.

I do not stop to think until I am spent
until the flow subsides
until the great downpour
  slowly
  surely
fades into a trickle

And like the passing storm
through the other side there is the night sky
when all is calm and fades into the darkness once more
and is done.
