We walked for an eternity along the moonlit path
Guided only by the stars of night, the wind and the rain.
Our horns held high, piercing, an immortal staff
To catch others, should they fall along the way.

Days and nights held no substance, turned to years
Seasons took their toll, and even our great power
Failed to catch those for whom we shed our tears
For help can we only those who seek such.

Our numbers dwindled, for death and desertion prevailed
Some lost hope, others their heart, but fain
Was the price as high for those who’s very souls were ailed.
They wandered from the light into shadow.

At long last, when the last heart dwindled, a flickering fire
In an ocean of pitch night, the fields opened.
We saw our home, our kindred, and those we admire
We caught the breath of life once more.

Those that remained mourned those we had lost
The flesh had faded, discarded by a spirit disheartened
But this new life was ours alone, given in trust
By the land itself, for she alone remembered us.

And so we remain, bound still with world-weight,
But free of a chained soul and a heavy heart.
We stand proud and free with friend or soul-mate
For we have reached our Home.
